WHERE DO TASTINGS TAKE PLACE?
We are a member led society and so all our tastings take place in venues in London, primarily in the offices of and law firms that provide generous support to the Society. We are always looking for new venues, and so if you are able to offer a venue (for which the Society will pay), please contact andrew.l.denny@icloud.com here.
DO GUESTS HAVE TO BE FROM THE LEGAL PROFESSION?
No - as a diverse and inclusive society we want to encourage people from all professions and backgrounds (and of all legal drinking ages) to attend.
HOW MANY GUESTS CAN I BRING?
We want as wide a participation as possible and so we encourage our members to bring guests whether these are friends, colleagues, spouses or clients. There is no fixed limit to the number of guests although we do sometimes impose restrictions to give all members a fair opportunity to participate.
WHAT IF I CAN’T ATTEND A TASTING, CAN I GET A REFUND?
If members and/or guests are unable to attend, as a member led society in order to protect the Society's reserves, we do not generally give refunds. In exceptional circumstances, and at the discretion of the committee, refunds may be given.
TICKET SALES
The capacity of our venues dictates the number of ticket sales. However, we also like to protect the Society by ensuring that tastings are well run, fun events. This means that the committee may operate waiting lists for events to ensure that events are run cost effectively.
IF I HAVE QUESTIONS REGARDING A SPECIFIC TASTING EVENT, WHO SHOULD I CONTACT?
If you have any questions in the run up to a Tasting, please contact the Organiser of that specific event. The Organiser’s contact details will be shared by email when the tickets are announced for sale. If you cannot find this, please contact andrew.l.denny@icloud.com.
IS ANY FOOD PROVIDED?
As is traditional at wine tastings, a small amount of cheese and biscuits is provided.
HOW MUCH WINE WILL I DRINK?
The wine is poured by members and guests on the basis that one bottle will give 12 tasting measures. At each tasting there generally will be at least 8 wines, meaning that on average you could drink about two thirds of a bottle of wine but many members drink far less. However, our events are "tastings" and so spittoons are provided to enable members to drink sparingly should they so wish.
How much do tickets cost?
Tickets are typically priced from £50 to £100, but with tickets for most tastings priced between £50-70. However, if these tastings were run commercially, for the quality of wine we drink, these tastings would cost considerably more. We encourage people to join the Society and therefore member tickets are usually priced less than guest tickets.
Do we make a profit?
No. We are a not-for-profit organisation. If the Society does make a surplus in any given year, the Committee reinvents any surplus in wine for future tastings and thus for the benefit of the members.
