The Loire presented by Jimmy Smith
The Loire presented by Jimmy Smith
“It’s the spiritual home of sauvignon blanc and refreshing white wines, but the light and distinctive reds… are equally superb" (David Williams)
Loire wines have long been praised for their light and fresh characteristics, with some wine lovers not looking beyond the region’s light, white wines for quaffing on a terrace after a hard-day's sightseeing around the chateaux along the river. Decanter notes “Famed for its Chenin Blancs, the Middle Loire also produces world-class Cabernet Franc and is home to one of the largest sparkling wine appellations in France.”
This evening's tasting will delve beyond what might be regarded as the "typical" white wines of the region, to encompass not only the region's whites, but also its sparkling, red and sweet wines. This promises to be an exciting evening discovering the lesser-known wines of the area, led by Jimmy Smith of the West London Wine School, a long-standing fan of Loire wines. The wines we will be tasting are as follows:
Domaine du Clos Naudin, Méthode Traditionnelle Brut 2014
Domaine François Chidaine, Montlouis Les Choisilles 2022
Domaine Aux Moines, Savennieres-Roche Aux Moines 2021
Domaine Henri Bourgeois, Sancerre Blanc “Les Marnes Kimmeridgiennes 2021
Herve Villemade, Touraine, Cour-Cheverny "Les Acacias" 2020
Domaine Serol Eclat de granite, AOP Cote Roannaise
Domaine Catherine & Pierre Breton, Bourgueil, Bourgueil Perrieres 2018
