Chairman’s Tasting II

Following on from our June 2019 tasting where we raided the Chairman’s personal cellar to explore the question ‘What is your favourite wine?’, we again raid the Chairman’s cellar to taste a few more of his favourite wines and wines from some of his favourite producers.  The Chairman will be joined (virtually) by Nancy Gilchrist MW and James Handford MW for a Zoom webinar and discussion of six wines and wine makers.  In order to make the discussion a bit more interesting, two of the wines will be presented blind, including to the MWs. We invite members and guests to comment during the tasting using the ‘chat’ and ‘Q&A’ functions of the Zoom webinar.  The wines to be presented are:

Alheit, Cartology Bush Vines 2015

Dujac, Morey-St-Denis 2006

Domain Ramonet, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er “Les Ruchottes” 2006

Araujo Estate Wines, Altagracia (Napa Valley) 2005

Blind white

Blind red

Samples of the six wines, packed in 70ml bottles, will be available for purchase prior to the tasting at a price of £65 per set of six, including duty, VAT and delivery in England.  The samples are being prepared on behalf of the SWS by the wine club 67 Pall Mall, and the sample bottles will be topped up with inert gas to preserve the wine samples. The cost of the samples represents the cost of the preparation and delivery of the wine samples, as the wines themselves are being contributed to the tasting free of charge by the Chairman.  We recommend that the samples be kept cool (the whites can be chilled) prior to the event and opened approximately 30 minutes prior to the tasting.

In order to purchase the samples, please send your name, email address, contact telephone number and delivery address to Steve Thierbach at thierbach@btinternet.com, and make a bank transfer of £65 to the SWS Tastings Account:

Sort code: 30-95-74,  Account number: 44527360, Reference: [your name] – CT II

Purchase requests and the corresponding bank transfer need to be made no later than Tuesday, 18 May, in order to secure the samples.  There are a maximum of 50 sample sets available for purchase, so please order samples with due consideration for your fellow members.

Members and guests who attend the tasting do not have to purchase the samples in order to participate. We expect the tasting to start immediately following the Society’s AGM and to run for approximately one hour and fifteen minutes. There is no need to reply to participate in the tasting.
