We are delighted to be able to bring to you our first in-person tasting since the global pandemic closed the doors of the Society back in March 2020. We are even more delighted that we are bringing you a Christmas Champagne tasting at the Salters’ Hall. We are very fortunate to be joined by Sandia Chang to lead us through the wines which she has personally sourced from the growers for her business Bubbleshop, the one-stop shop for grower Champagnes. Sandia is also the co‑proprietor of the 2 Michelin Star restaurant Kitchen Table.
The choice of Champagne is often bewildering with more Champagne made in any given year than the entire wine production of New Zealand. The growth in reputation and ranges of the grower champagne proprietors adds even more choice for wine lovers, with many growers moving away from the styles of the more traditional houses and establishing their own signature styles.
We will taste in pairs across a variety of styles, ranging from traditional blends to blanc de noirs and pinot meuniers; those employing the solera method to a celebratory pair of "pinks". We anticipate a lively evening to break our fast where we hope to rekindle our shared passion for discussing wines based on a truly unique line up of producers. This will be a lot of fun! A tasting not to be missed.
We will taste the following cuvées:
Jean-Marc Sélèque Solessence
Dhondt-Grellet Dans un Premier Temps
J-L Vergnon Eloquence
Olivier Horiot Solera
Francoise Bedel Entre Ciel et Terre
Jeaunaux-Robin Instinct Meunier
Pouillon Rosé
Laherte Frères Rosé de Meunier
Tickets cost £65 for members and £75 for guests. This being both our Christmas tasting and our first of the season, members are urged to apply promptly.
Please note that due to the COVID situation we will not be providing any nibbles and will have one person at each table to pour the wines.
