Château Haut-Bailly with Veronique Sanders-van Beek & Richard Bampfield MW
Château Haut-Bailly with Veronique Sanders-van Beek & Richard Bampfield MW
“Château Haut-Bailly is an insider wine which is usually kept to share with the happy few.”
We are delighted to welcome Veronique Sanders-van Beek to present this “vertical” tasting of Haut-Bailly wines, specially chosen for the SWS and all recently sourced direct from its striking modern cellars. The “hands-on” CEO since 1998 when Haut-Bailly was bought from her family by the late Robert Wilmers, Veronique is the fourth generation of her family to be associated with Haut-Bailly. She is uniquely placed to share with us the illustrious heritage of the Estate and her aspirations for its future stewardship under the Wilmers family. The Chateau boasts a unique terroir and an unusual century-old plus mix of six grape varieties in a single contiguous 10 acre plot at the heart of the Estate. These vines still form the base of the Grand Vin which has been viewed as being among the top wines of Pessac-Léognan since Robert Parker gave 100 pts to the 2009, which we shall taste, as well as the 2008, which Jancis Robinson MW described as “amazing” and “fantastic”. Our good friend Richard Bampfield MW will also share his impressions on the wines as we taste:
