Wine Tasting: Barolo 2010

Wine Tasting: Barolo 2010

from £55.00

‘One of the all-time great vintages for Italy’s most noble red’*

Barolo is justifiably one of Italy’s most famous and celebrated wines. Often requiring considerable time to reach its full potential, we are presenting cellared wines, primarily from the Society’s own reserves, from the excellent 2010 vintage. Barolo 2010 has been described as a vintage from which ‘wine lovers are confronted with an embarrassment of riches’ (Ian D’Agata, Decanter).

The Society is delighted to welcome, once again, Michael Palij MW to guide us expertly through a stunning selection of wines from across the Barolo region. Barolo wines are regarded as a superlative expression of Piedmont’s revered Nebbiolo grape. Our selection aims to present to members and guests the opportunity to compare a variety of styles achieved by individual producers from different sites as well as a range of communes within the region. Barolo is a complex region with landscapes producing a range of micro climates as well as differing soil varieties and vineyards at a wide range of altitudes This complexity means that the Nebbiolo grape achieves a tremendous variety of expression in the hands of different producers in diverse locations throughout the region.

As a bonus, we will whet our palates with an excellent example of Piedmont’s white grape, Arneis: Marco Porello, Roero Arneis ‘Camestri’ 2018 (Vezza). The Barolo wines we will proceed to sample are:

  • Giovanni Rosso, Barolo, Serralunga d'Alba (Serralunga)

  • Fratelli Brovia, Barolo ‘Villero’ (Castiglione)

  • Trediberri, Barolo 'Rocche dell'Annunziata' (La Morra)

  • Fratelli Brovia, Barolo ‘Garblet Sue’ (Castiglione)

  • Vietti, Barolo ‘Rocche di Castiglione’ (Castiglione)

  • Elio Grasso, Barolo ‘Gavarini Vigna Chiniera’ (Monforte)

  • Giacomo Fenocchio, Barolo ‘Villero’ (Castiglione)

  • Elio Grasso, Barolo ‘Ginestra Vigna Casa Mate’ (Monforte)

Tickets are priced at £55 for members and £60 for guests, representing tremendous value for the opportunity to enjoy a premium selection of this exceptional Italian wine.
